Gold and Silver Prices Soar: Gold Jumps ₹3,540, Silver Surges ₹5,000 on August 22

Gold and silver prices are witnessing a powerful rally in India on August 22, 2026, with both precious metals trading at elevated levels. Gold has posted a sharp daily increase, while silver has also climbed strongly, keeping investors and jewellery buyers focused on the bullion market.

Gold prices are shining brightly today as the precious-metal rally gathers momentum. According to market data, 22-carat gold is around ₹1,47,130 per 10 grams, with a daily increase of ₹3,540 in the cited rate.

The rise is even more significant when viewed against recent trading sessions. Gold has been gaining for the third consecutive week in international markets, with spot gold reaching around $4,624 per ounce on August 21. Reuters reported that gold gained more than 5% during the week, supported by a weaker US dollar and strong bullish momentum.

Silver is also making headlines. In Mumbai, silver was quoted at approximately ₹2,76,100 per kilogram on August 22, compared with ₹2,71,100 the previous day — an increase of ₹5,000 per kilogram.

The sharp rise in precious metals is being supported by several global and domestic factors. A weaker US dollar has made gold more attractive internationally, while expectations surrounding US interest rates have also helped improve investor sentiment. Safe-haven demand amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty is providing another important boost.

The rally is not limited to gold. International silver prices also advanced strongly, with Reuters reporting silver up about 2.3% to $69.62 per ounce on August 21.

Indian markets are reflecting this global strength. In Hyderabad, for example, 24-carat gold reached ₹1,63,090 per 10 grams, up ₹1,520 from the previous rate, while 22-carat gold reached ₹1,49,500 per 10 grams, up ₹1,400. Chennai also reported an increase of ₹800 per sovereign on August 22.

Why Are Gold and Silver Rising So Fast?

The current rally is being driven by a combination of factors: a weaker US dollar, expectations of less aggressive US monetary policy, safe-haven buying, central-bank demand and continued investor interest in precious metals. Gold has already risen strongly during August, with international prices gaining more than 16% during the month according to an Economic Times report.

Silver is benefiting from both investment demand and industrial demand. Because silver has significant industrial applications, its price can sometimes move even more sharply than gold when investor and industrial demand strengthen simultaneously.

Gold-Silver Outlook

The current trend remains strongly positive, but investors should also be prepared for volatility. After such a rapid rise, temporary profit-booking or corrections cannot be ruled out. Jewellery prices can also differ from bullion rates because of GST, making charges, purity and jeweller premiums.
