Trump Media Reports $238 Million Quarterly Loss as Falling Crypto Holdings Hit Company Results

Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, reported a net loss of $238.1 million for the second quarter of 2026, as falling values of its cryptocurrency and other digital assets put significant pressure on its financial results. The loss was sharply higher than the roughly $20 million loss reported a year earlier.

The company’s revenue remained very small compared with the size of the reported loss. Trump Media generated about $1.7 million in revenue during the quarter, highlighting the extent to which changes in the value of its investment portfolio affected the overall results.

A major part of the loss came from unrealised losses on digital assets and related securities. The company reported about $190.4 million in unrealised losses from its crypto and securities holdings during the quarter. These losses largely reflected changes in market values rather than the company selling all of those assets at a loss.

Trump Media has made Bitcoin a major part of its corporate treasury strategy. By the end of June, the company held approximately 9,477 Bitcoin, along with additional Bitcoin connected to its yield-management programme. It also held shares of a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund.

The company’s heavy exposure to cryptocurrency means its financial results can move significantly when Bitcoin prices change. A decline in the value of Bitcoin can create large accounting losses even when the company continues to hold the underlying assets.

Trump Media is not abandoning its cryptocurrency strategy despite the latest results. Instead, the company said it plans to change how it manages its digital-asset treasury. The strategy is expected to include approaches such as options and Bitcoin-based yield generation, with the aim of reducing volatility and making better use of its holdings.

The company has also continued to increase its Bitcoin holdings. By the end of July, Trump Media reportedly held around 14,139 Bitcoin, showing that its long-term commitment to the cryptocurrency remains intact.

However, the results highlight the risks involved in maintaining a large cryptocurrency position on a corporate balance sheet. Bitcoin prices can change quickly, and a major market decline can have a substantial impact on reported earnings and investor sentiment.

Trump Media’s core media business is still relatively small compared with its digital-asset holdings. Truth Social remains the company’s main social-media platform, but advertising and other business activities have so far generated modest revenue. This has made investment performance an increasingly important factor in the company’s quarterly financial results.

The company is also looking to develop other parts of its business and has discussed expansion beyond social media. Management has indicated that it wants to strengthen the company’s overall business operations while continuing to maintain exposure to Bitcoin.

For investors, the latest results show why Trump Media’s stock can be particularly sensitive to both cryptocurrency prices and broader market sentiment. The company combines a media business with a large digital-asset treasury, creating a financial profile that differs significantly from a traditional social-media company.

The $238.1 million quarterly loss therefore does not mean that the company lost the entire amount in cash. A significant portion was connected to changes in the reported value of its digital assets and securities. Still, the result shows how quickly cryptocurrency volatility can affect the company’s reported earnings.

Going forward, investors will watch Bitcoin prices, the company’s treasury strategy and the performance of Truth Social closely. The key question will be whether Trump Media can generate stronger operating revenue while managing the risks associated with its large cryptocurrency holdings.

For now, the second-quarter results underline the growing connection between Trump Media’s financial performance and the highly volatile cryptocurrency market.
