Motilal Oswal Group has committed to invest ₹1,500 crore in Inox Clean Energy, the renewable energy platform of the INOXGFL Group, in a major financing deal that underlines growing investor interest in India’s clean-energy sector. Of the total commitment, ₹1,000 crore has already been invested, while the remaining ₹500 crore is expected to be deployed soon. The investment is being made through Compulsorily Convertible Debentures (CCDs) and will primarily support Inox Clean Energy’s expansion and acquisition plans.
The investment comes at an important time for India’s renewable-energy industry. The country is rapidly expanding its solar and wind power capacity as companies and governments look for cleaner sources of electricity. For renewable-energy developers, however, expansion requires significant capital because building power projects, manufacturing facilities and supporting infrastructure involves large upfront investments.
Inox Clean Energy plans to use the new capital to support both organic growth and inorganic expansion, meaning the company can use the funds to acquire existing renewable-energy businesses or projects as well as develop its own assets. The company has been actively expanding its renewable portfolio through acquisitions and investments in power generation and solar manufacturing.
The financing is particularly notable because Inox Clean Energy is building an integrated clean-energy business rather than focusing on only one part of the renewable-energy value chain. Its operations cover renewable power generation, solar manufacturing, wind-turbine manufacturing, engineering, procurement and construction, and operations and maintenance.
This integrated model is designed to give the group greater control over the development of renewable projects. Through its wider ecosystem, the company can manufacture equipment, develop renewable projects and provide engineering and maintenance services. The strategy could help reduce dependence on external suppliers and improve coordination between different stages of project development.

Inox Clean Energy has also been expanding its renewable power portfolio at a rapid pace. According to industry reports, its renewable Independent Power Producer portfolio in India had reached around 3 GW as of June 2026, and the company is targeting more than 6 GW of operational capacity by the end of FY27. Its expansion is not limited to India, with the company also developing renewable projects in Africa.
Solar manufacturing is another major part of the company’s strategy. Inox Clean Energy operates a 3 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Gujarat and is developing a larger 5 GW module and cell manufacturing facility in India. The company has also established manufacturing capacity in the United States and plans further expansion there.
The Motilal Oswal investment follows a ₹700 crore investment from the Adar Poonawalla Family Office, showing that several large investors are taking an interest in Inox Clean Energy’s growth plans. Other investors associated with the company and its subsidiaries include CalPERS, RJ Corp, Hero Group, Authum Investments and Akash Bhansali, along with other family offices and high-net-worth investors.
For Motilal Oswal Group, the investment provides exposure to one of the fastest-growing segments of India’s infrastructure economy. The group has businesses across capital markets, wealth and asset management, investment banking and private capital. Its private-credit investment in Inox Clean Energy reflects a broader interest in financing companies with long-term expansion opportunities.
The structure of the deal is also important. Since the investment is being made through CCDs, the instruments can eventually be converted into equity under the agreed terms. This gives the investor a potential path to participate in the future growth of the company while providing Inox Clean Energy with capital for its current expansion plans. Reports also link the investment to the possibility of an equity conversion around a future IPO.
The deal comes as Inox Clean Energy continues to prepare for its larger growth ambitions. The company has previously taken steps toward a proposed public offering, indicating that access to additional capital markets could become an important part of its long-term expansion strategy.
For India’s renewable-energy market, the investment is another sign that large pools of private capital are increasingly moving toward clean-energy infrastructure. Developing renewable power requires substantial funding, and investments from financial groups can help companies accelerate projects, acquire assets and build manufacturing capacity.
Overall, the ₹1,500-crore commitment strengthens Inox Clean Energy’s financial position and gives it additional resources to pursue expansion. For Motilal Oswal Group, it represents a significant bet on India’s energy-transition story. As demand for renewable power, solar manufacturing and clean-energy infrastructure continues to grow, investments of this scale could play an important role in shaping the next phase of India’s renewable-energy industry.
