Realme has started selling its new Realme 16x 5G in India, with the smartphone targeting buyers who want a large battery, smooth display and 5G connectivity without moving into the premium price range. The phone became available from August 13 through Flipkart, Realme’s India website and major offline retailers.
The biggest feature of the Realme 16x 5G is its 7,000mAh battery, which is considerably larger than what is found on many smartphones in this price segment. It supports 45W fast charging, 6.5W reverse wired charging and bypass charging. Realme says the battery is designed for extended everyday use, making the phone particularly appealing to users who spend long hours watching videos, using social media or playing games.
The phone comes with a 6.8-inch HD+ LCD display offering a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 1,200 nits of brightness. The high refresh rate should make scrolling, animations and compatible games feel smoother. However, the display has a 720 × 1570-pixel resolution, so buyers looking for sharper Full HD+ or AMOLED visuals may find competing phones more attractive.
Under the hood, the Realme 16x 5G uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 5G chipset. It is available with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. Storage can also be expanded using a microSD card, giving users more flexibility for photos, videos and other large files.
For photography, the phone features a 50-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. Realme has also added AI-based camera features to improve everyday photography. The setup is aimed at regular users rather than customers looking for a dedicated camera phone with multiple lenses and advanced imaging hardware.

The Realme 16x 5G runs Android 16 with Realme UI 7 and comes with a promise of two major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates. The company has also highlighted durability features, including IP65 protection and MIL-STD-810H certification.
The pricing makes the phone a direct competitor in India’s crowded mid-range smartphone market. The 4GB + 128GB model costs ₹25,999, while the 6GB + 128GB version is priced at ₹27,999. The top-end 6GB + 256GB variant costs ₹30,999. Launch offers include a flat ₹2,000 discount, while an exchange benefit may provide additional savings depending on the device being traded in.
Realme is clearly using battery life as the phone’s main selling point. The company says its 7,000mAh battery can provide long periods of gaming, video playback and social-media use, although actual battery life will depend on network conditions, brightness and individual usage. Realme’s own laboratory testing claims up to 12.34 hours of gaming and up to 20.4 hours of online video playback.
The phone also includes a large 5,300mm²-plus vapour-chamber cooling system, which is intended to manage heat during demanding tasks. For gamers, the combination of a 144Hz screen, large battery and cooling system could make the device more comfortable for longer sessions, although the Dimensity 6300 is still positioned as an everyday mid-range processor rather than a flagship gaming chip.
There are some compromises. The HD+ LCD panel is less sharp than Full HD+ displays, while the camera system is relatively basic. The phone is also fairly large and heavy because of its massive battery. Reviews have highlighted battery endurance and the smooth 144Hz display as its strengths, while camera performance and pre-installed software remain weaker areas.
Still, the Realme 16x 5G offers a clear proposition. Instead of trying to compete with premium smartphones on every specification, Realme has focused on the features many everyday users notice most: battery life, smooth scrolling, 5G connectivity and a large screen.
With the smartphone now available in India, buyers looking for a long-lasting 5G phone under ₹30,000 have another option to consider. The biggest question will be whether customers are willing to accept the HD+ display and mid-range camera setup in exchange for the unusually large 7,000mAh battery.
